the problem doesnt lie in the render time, i know how long it can take sometimes....its that the computer tends to freeze up and the viewports do not refresh when i manipulate an object. btw my video cards an 64mb geforce4....its pretty good...so i dont think that is the problem....thanks anyway though

Alot of the time 3ds lagging is a result of a lack of processor power or dedicated video ram rather than regular system memory. OK... if you use openGL as one the view driver, then you will need more ram, but if you are using direct 3d, or other hardware interface, you need a better vidoe card. render time problems are usually all processor. It doesn't matter how fast your comp is, a good quality render can take DAYS! (how i hate giving up my box for 4 days to get 60 seconds of video!)
Another solution (temporary) is to model each object in the scene separately, merge them into the scene, and set their properties to "view as box" or you could hide objects you're currently not working on and set your renderer to "render hidden objects" (these last 2 options are especially effective if you preview render often.)

thanx for the comment....its appreciated....i think i should get into 3ds max, ive use it before, but i didnt have the time nor patience to learn all of its features...it is a truly amazing modeler and the things ive seen done with it are awesome

you need to get into 3ds max, your bryce skills are great, but i bet you could really let loose with an advanced modeller
